Planet eStream has a built-in editor that allows you to perform basic editing functions. For more sophisticated editing projects, it is better to use external video editing software. Ask IT Services what is currently available and check the list on the FLEX Media Centre website. Click on the picture:

How do I open and save an Editing Project?

An editing project is an audio or video file which is opened and edited with the Video Editor in Planet eStream WU.

1 Create Editing Project

Proceed as follows to create an editing project:

Click on the file you want to edit, and then on Open in Video Editor. Now, the selected video is added as a source in the video editor. ALTERNATIVELY, click in the top menu bar in Planet eStream WU on Open Tools Menu and Video Editor. There, no sources are added, yet.
In the top menu bar of the video editor, click on Save.
You can now give a name to the current editing project and then click on Create.

You can now edit the video by adding a title, image, colour or voice-over.

2 Access Editing Project

Proceed as follows to access an editing project:

Move the mouse cursor on your name top right and click at Edits.
At Not Submitted, all editing projects are listed that have not yet been published as a video.
Click on Open next to the editing project.

You can now continue the editing.

3 Close Editing Project

Proceed as follows to close an editing project (and to create a video):

Select Submit and Confirm, to save a copy of the video with the changes (edits).
If the submission is ready, you can click on View Edit.

You can now find your video under Edits and Submitted.

How do I trim/cut a video?

You can trim (and combine) uploaded videos, audio files, imported recordings of MS-Teams meetings and self produced web recordings (screencasts).

Trim Video

To trim the beginning and the end of a video, proceed as follows:

Select a video and click on Open in Video Editor. The video will be added as a source in the video editor.
Click on the stopwatch symbol at Start (1) to define a new start time for the video or, alternatively, enter the time in the format 00:00:00.
Click on the stopwatch symbol at End (2), to define a new end time for the video or, alternatively, enter the time in the format 00:00:00.
Click on Add Clip (2), to add the video with the new start and end time to the Preview Window.

Now you trimmed your video and optional you can add titles, images, colours or a voice-over.

Cut Video

To cut a video, proceed as follows:

Add a video to the video track and make sure that it is activated (click on it, icon (1) becomes big).
Move the slider of the timeline scale (2) further to the right to zoom into the timeline.
Click on the timeline to position the red marker (3).
Click on the blade icon (4) to set a cut at the marker position (press Ctrl +Z to undo an action).
Click on the element in the video track and select Del (5).
Then, close the gap by dragging and dropping the video appropriately.

You can also cut elements on the audio track. For doing so, activate the audio track and repeat the cuts as described above.

ATTENTION: A voiceover cannot be cut.

How do I combine multiple videos into one video?

Mix and match videos as you like.

Combine Videos

Proceed as follows to combine several videos to one video:

1. Click on Open Tools Menu in the top menu bar, and then click Video Editor.
2. Create a project (see: How do I open and save an editing project?). At Source (1) select Load Source (2).
3. Click on Select Item to load a video as a source.
4. Add all sources you want to combine.

Follow these steps to embed videos sequentially:

Add the video you want to be displayed first as the source video.
Trim the video as desired, then go to Add Clip.

Proceed in the same way for all other clips.

Choose one of the two other alternatives if you want to insert a video at the marker's position on the video track instead of adding it at the end. With Insert Clip, the video will be integrated exactly at the selected position, whereby the already existing video is cut and moved apart (e.g. for content additions). The duration of the video project in total will be longer. With Overwrite Clip the source video is overwritten starting from the marker position (e.g. for corrections of content). This does not change the duration of the video project.

How do I insert subheadings in a video?

To insert a subheading directly into a video, open an editing project and add a video as a source to the video track:

Click on a video and on Open in Video Editor.
Create a project and load the videos to the video track.
You can add a subheading in any of three ways:
1. as text overlay above the video
2. as text on an image
3. as text on an empty space

A. Text Overlay

Follow these steps to add a subheading as an overlay above the video:

Click on Add Title (1).
Enter a text and select the format of the text. Confirm your entry with Confirm.
Now, the text is shown as an object on the title track (2), and as a content in the preview window (3).
Via click on the object on the title track you will get into a dialogue window. Here, you can delete the object or edit it again.
Move the text on the title track if necessary and extend the display time via dragging the object directly on the title track (2).
Click left or right next to the title icon to repeat the last edits on the title or to revert them.

B. Text on Image

Proceed as follows to add a subheading as text on a picture:

Make a cut or select an already existing cutting mark at the video track of a video and click on the plus symbol.
Select Add Still.
Click on Select Image, to select a picture from your picture library (see: How do I insert a picture into a video (Picture-in-Picture)?)
At Duration enter the duration of the insert in seconds.
Click on Insert, to insert the picture at the desired cutting mark.
Now you can embed a text additionally at the title track above the picture - as described above.
Now, the text is embedded on top of the picture.

NOTE: If you click on Add Still, you have further options. Here, you can determine if the picture is inserted (Insert), added at the end (Add) shown as a picture-in-picture.

C. Text on Empty Space

Proceed as follows to add a subheading as a text on an empty space:

Make a cut or select a cutting mark in a video on the video track and click on the plus sign.
Select Add Colour.
Select the colour of the block at Block Colour.
At Duration, enter the duration of this insert in seconds.
Select Confirm, to insert the colour block at the selected cutting mark.
As described above, you can now additionally embed a text on the title track above the colour block.
Now, the text is dsiplayed on top of the coloured area.
With a click on the colour block on the video track the block can be copied (copy). The copy is added at the end of the video track automatically and can be moved from there to the desired place.

ATTENTION: Text overlays can hardly be formatted and are therefore only suitable for single keywords or short sentences.

How do I insert a picture into a video (Picture-in-Picture)?

Pictures that have been adeed to Planet eStream (see: "How do I upload an Image?") can later be used in video-edits.

Insert Picture

Follow the steps below to insert the image into a video as well:

Click on a video, and select Edit Video under Details.
Create a project and load a video onto the video track.
Place the marker at a position on the video track where you want to insert an image.
Click Add Still.
Navigate to Select Image, to select a picture from the photo library. Make your choice with a click on Select Media (visible if the mouse cursor is on the picture).
At Duration enter the duration of the image display.
Click on T Add.
Position the image on the screen, adjust the size and define a background color if the image format is a PNG file. Confirm all adjustments with Confirm.

Now, the overlay picture is shown as an object on the title track (1) and in the preview window (2). Move the image on the title track if necessary and extend the duration of the display by stretching the object.

How do I add music to a video?

There is a video audio that is directly tied to the video and is not shown separately. However, in addition to this, you can import a separate audio file as an additional audio source.

Add Music

Proceed as follows, if you want to add music to a video, for example:

Click on a video and click on Open in Video Editor.
Create a project and load the video onto the video track.
Navigate to Sources and Load Source, to upload an audio file as a source. You can filter for Audio Only under More....
Add the audio file as a source by clicking on Select Item, trim the video as necessary.
Then select Add Clip. If the audio file is too long, the end time can be adapted.
If the audio is too short, you could add it multiple times on the audio track.
Now, you can see the audio file on an own audio track, where you also can trim it. If necessary, adjust the volume of the audio. The audio volume is always adjusted for the entire track and not, for example, for individual segments.

How do I add a voiceover to a video?

The addition of a voice over is only possible to a limited extent.

Add Voiceover

To add a voice over to a video, proceed as follows:

Click on a video and on Open in Video Editor.
Create a project (see: "How do I open and save an editing project?") and load the video onto the video track.
Place the marker at a position on the video track where you want to insert a voice over.
Click on Add Voice-Over.

Now, the voice-over dialogue will open. Check the selected microphone.

When recording, follow the steps below:

Click on Start to start recording. A 3 seconds countdown will count down, after that the recording will start. In the same time the video is played in the preview window (picture and audio) so you can see what is happening and hear if there are already audio impulses on the video track.
ATTENTION: Make a short test in advance to check microphone and tool.
Pause the ongoing recording by clicking Pause and select Resume to resume recording after a pause.
Click Finish, to save the voiceover. It now appears as a red bar on the voice over track.
You can add multiple voiceovers. To do this, navigate to the desired start positions in the video on the video track or in the preview window. Click Exit Voice-Over Recorder to return to the regular editing window.

ATTENTION: A voiceover should be recorded at the end, after the entire editing process has been completed and the editing project has been saved once. A voiceover can be recorded in several separate parts, BUT it cannot be cut or moved afterwards.
