Enrich Media

You can enrich media records with a variety of content, including chapter structure, additional information and file attachments. All enhancements can be optionally displayed or turned off when embedding elsewhere.

NOTE: If authentication is not enabled for an embed, access to the sidebar content depends on whether the person is already logged in to Planet eStream via the SSO. Without login, the sidebar content will not be displayed.

How can I create chapters?

Create sequential or overlapping chapters as you wish.

Create Chapters

To create chapters, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and search for a video.
Navigate to the Chapters icon in the sidebar of the video.
Click on the Create Chapter button.
Start the player and pause the video to set a start or end for a chapter. Alternatively, enter a start time in the format HH:MM:SS.
Assign a title for the chapter and optionally add a description.
Navigate to any point in the video and click Set from Current Time to select the current image as thumbnail for this chapter, or upload your own thumbnail from a file.
Click Save Chapter to create the chapter.

The chapters will be ranked according to their position in the timeline. The number of created chapters is displayed directly at the icon Chapters. Each chapter can be individually added to a playlist, embedded or shared via link, or enriched with a quiz timeline and then shared via link or embedded. Students can be given the option to view chapters in an embedded video.

Create Bookmark Chapter

As an alternative to chapters, you can create a simple index by leaving the End Time field blank. This way you can create a simple jump navigation to points in time in the video.

NOTE: Bookmark Chapters cannot be enhanced with a separate quiz timelines, nor can they be embedded as chapters in a playlist or Canvas course.

How can I create and add anotations?

You can use graphical annotations and highlighting to flexibly enhance a video. The graphical elements are placed on top of the actual video in Planet eStream WU like a template, but do not change the content of the original video. So you can add completely different sets of annotations and highlights to a video and embed them in Canvas WU in a flexible way, combined or freely selected by the students themselves.

1 Create Quiz

To add annotations and highlights to a video, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and search for a video item.
Navigate to the Quizzes icon in the sidebar of the video file.
Click Create New Quiz and add a title and optional intro text.
Click on the Confirm button.

2 Add Annotations

Navigate to the quiz and select Edit.
Run the media file or navigate to a desired point in the video.
Click on Add and select Icon Drawing, Annotation or Link.
Click Confirm.

Icon Drawing

To add an icon drawing, follow these steps:

Under Annotation, select a title for this icon drawing (visible only to you).
Select a Shape, Colour, optional Transformation and Position of the icon drawing. You can also drag and drop the icon drawing anywhere on the current video screen.
Select a Pause Setting. Either the video will stop as soon as the icon drawing appears (Pause), or it pause for just a short time (5, 15 or 30 seconds) before the video automatically resumes.
Click Confirm.

Annotation

To add an annotation, follow these steps:

Add the Annotation Text.
Drag and drop the text anywhere on the current video screen.
Select a Text Colour and optional a Background Colour, as well as a font style, font size, text alignment etc.
Select a Set Time.
Click Confirm.

Link

To add an external link, follow these steps:

Add a Link Title.
Select a Set Time.
Enter a Link URL in the format http://www.wu.ac.at
Click Confirm.

To add a link to another Planet eStream media file, follow these steps:

Select Content Link (e.g. to another video, image or document).
Select a Set Time.
Click Confirm.

3 Finalize Quiz (Annotations)

After all annotations, highlights (and optional also quiz questions) have been added, follow these steps:

Configure the Settings (adding a description and activating the splashscreen is recommended).
Click on Preview to see what the finished quiz will look like.
Click Publish to make the quiz accessible.

4 Display Quiz (Annotations)

To set a default display, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and search for a video or audio item with a quiz.
Click on Manage Item and select Item Options .
Pick a Quiz-Timeline under Set Default Interactive Timeline.

The selected quiz (annotations) will be automatically displayed on the page when viewers access this content. As long as they have been granted the right to view this content

How can I create and add a quiz?

In Planet eStream WU, quiz questions are placed over the actual video like a template, but do not change the content of the original video. So you can add completely different sets of questions to a video and embed them flexibly combined in Canvas.

1. Create Quiz

To create quiz questions, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and search for a video or audio item.
Navigate to the Quizzes icon in the sidebar of the media file.
Click Create New Quiz and add a title and optional intro text.
Click on the Confirm button.

2. Add Quiz Questions

Navigate to the quiz and select Edit.
Run the media file or navigate to a desired point in the video or audio.
Click on Add and select Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blank, Hot Spot, True or False or Free Text
Click Confirm.

Multiple or Single Choice Question	To add a multiple or single choice question, follow these steps: Enter the question and all answer alternatives. Mark all correct answers with the Correct checkbox. The question will then be displayed as a multiple choice. Optionally enter a feedback for when the question was answered correctly or not correctly (Correct / Incorrect Feedback) or a Hint. Select a Lead in option. Select a Set Time. Save your entries with Confirm.
True or False Question	To add a new true-or-false question, follow these steps: Enter the question. Then enter a term for each of the true and false parts (e.g. yes/no, true/false, true/don't true) and select which answer is the correct one (none, true part, false part). Optionally enter feedback for when the question was answered correctly or not correctly (Correct / Incorrect Feedback) or a Hint. Select a Lead in option. Select a Set Time. Save your entries with Confirm.
Free Text Question	To add a new free text question, follow these steps: Enter the question and optionally a hint. Select a Lead in option. Select a Set Time. Save your entries with Confirm.
Fill in the Blank Question	To add a Fill in the Blanks question, follow these steps: Enter the question. Write some text in the Phrase box and Select Blanks from Your Phrase. Optionally enter feedback for when the question was answered correctly or not correctly (Correct / Incorrect Feedback) or a Hint. Select a Lead in option. Select a Set Time. Save your entries with Confirm.
Hot Spot Question	To add a hot spot question, follow these steps: Enter the question. Then click on Add Small Target, Add Medium Target and/or Add Large Target and position as many target fields as you like on the screen. Select a Lead in option. Optionally enter feedback for when the question was answered correctly or not correctly (Correct / Incorrect Feedback) or a Hint. Select a Set Time. Save your entries with Confirm.

When creating the questions, you can select under the Lead in options whether the question should already be faded in before the entire question is faded in in the video. In the lower timeline, you can see the previous preview duration (1) and the time at which the entire question is displayed (2), which always goes hand in hand with pausing the video.

Recommendation: Enlarge the player view by clicking on the icon before starting the video quiz:

NOTE: Annotations and highlighting can also be combined with quiz questions in a set.

3 Finalize Quiz

After all quiz questions (and optional annotations and highlights) have been added, follow these steps:

Configure the Settings:
- Optionally, show answers after each question has been answered.
- Show results at the end of the video or immediately after an answer is given.
- Optionally, require a correct answer before continuing, i.e. only allow the video to continue if the answer is correct.
- Optionally disable searching in the video, i.e. you cannot skip content in the video.
- Optional email notification after quiz completion.
- Optionally limit the number of attempts in the quiz (e.g. to three attempts per question).
- Activate the SplashScreen and write a description (recommended).
Click on Preview to see what the finished quiz will look like.
Click Publish to make the quiz accessible.

4 Display Quiz

To set a default display, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and search for a video or audio item with a quiz.
Click on Manage Item and select Item Options .
Pick a Quiz-Timeline under Set Default Interactive Timeline.

How can I create subtitles or use the transcription service?

You can add subtitles to your video.

Create Subtitles

To add subtitles, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and navigate to a video or audio file.
Under the video, click Open in Subtitle Editor.
Click on New and create a track first.
Now you can upload a subtitle file or create own subtitles by clicking on the plus icon. To upload a subtitle file, select a file in .SRT format and upload it.
Let the video play and define the start and end time by clicking on Set.
Write the transcription/translation in the text field. Usually only 5 to max. 10 words are written per subtitle sequence.
Click on Confirm to save the subtitle sequence.
Click on Exit to leave the subtitle editor.

In the editor, you now see the video in the left window and the subtitle sequences in the right window. Click on Go to play the sequence in the video and check again whether the display and the time definitions fit. If not, simply adjust them directly in the right window.

To work efficiently with the subtitle editor, it is recommended to use shortcuts. Under Help you will find the current keyboard shortcuts for the subtitle editor and the player.

Use Transcription Service

The Audio Transcription Service is the machine transcription of spoken texts. To add an auto-transcription, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and search for a video or audio item.
Click on Manage Item and select Transcription Services .
Select the language into which you want the audio track of the video to be translated as a subtitle track.
Click Submit to Planet eStream Free Translation.

The processing takes a few days. During that time the transcription job will show as Pending. Therafter, you will find the subtitles added to your video.

For the English language, this tool is well suited, as the error rate is very low and it is versatile applicable even for non-native speakers with dialect. The German speech model also works well, but still has difficulties with words that sound similar.

How can I add a thumbnail picture?

A thumbnail is displayed as a preview image in Planet eStream and when a video is embedded.

Add Thumbnail

To add a thumbnail picture to a video, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and search for a video/audio/ülaylist item
Click on the Edit Item icon under the media file.
Select Edit Thumbnail.
Make your choice: Set from Current Time or Select from File.
Click Confirm.

NOTE: Displaying the new thumbnail can sometimes require a new login and take a while.

How can I add a synchronized presentation?

You can synchronize a video with images or a presentation, which means that the image or presentation materials are shown to match the content in the video or audio.

Create Slideshow

To add a slidewhow to a video, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and search for a video/audio/playlist item.
Navigate to the Slideshows icon in the sidebar of the media file.
Click Create Slideshow.
Assign a name for the slideshow and click Confirm.
Click Add New Slides to upload a zip file.
Let the video play and click on the Clock icon on an image content whenever you want it to be displayed from then on.
Click Exit Editor if you are finished.

Synchronize Slideshow

Navigate to Slideshows in the sidebar of the media file.
Click on the eye icon next to the slideshow.
Select Sync Slide Show.

The slideshow will now fade in at the specified points in the video.

How can I attach files?

You can attach files to a video.

Attach Files

To attach files to a video, audio or playlist, follow these steps:

Log in to Planet eStream WU and search for a video/audio/playlist item.
Navigate to the Related Media icon in the sidebar of the media file.
Click Upload Related Media.
Select the files you want to attach and proceed with Upload.
